Dystopia as Reality
Fargone is a self-contained universe taking place in 2125 at the edge of the great plains. Frankly, this project has spiraled out of control and includes everything from rules for roleplaying, descriptions of dimension-bending equipment, a poker-like card game, high-crime adventure scenerios, and a lengthy imagined history complete with conspiracies and assassination plots. And sociopath cyborgs. While it's fun producing audio recordings of near-future villains, it'd probably be better to use this fiction to better understand ourselves and prevent Fargone from ever truly existing...

It takes more than a cool setting and good writing to delight an audience; people must become part of a something larger than themselves. Turn cogs in the police-state machine or gnaw at the city framework... vie for vast fortunes or prevent paradox; larger forces must present themselves, and the storyteller must weave narratives from these disparate struggles. While this world is imagined, it comments on the present. Nuclear weapons, climate change, corporate greed, a disintegrating infrastructure, and other mounting problems threaten the planet at an accelerating rate. For all its high technology, the reality of 2125 should provide disturbing similarities to the slowly-sinking cruise-liner known as now.
